MEPs target trucks for 20% emissions cut by 2020
A new target to cut road transport CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 has been voted through the European Parliament’s Transport Committee.
The European Commission could now draft legislation, if necessary.
The target updates the proposal set by the EC’s Transport White Paper earlier this year, which calls for a 60% reduction by 2050. "All measures brought forward should fit the general goals of the White Paper," says a spokesperson for the Transport Committee.
MEPs on the Transport Committee were supporting an own-initiative report by Belgian MEP, Mathieu Grosch. The report also calls for road users to pay for pollution, noise and congestion.
