Over 100 jobs to go at Stobart Group

Stobart Group says it will be making more than a hundred driver redundancies across three of its depots as it pursues a cost-cutting strategy.

Leeds will face the brunt of the cuts, with 89 trampers’ jobs being made redundant. The remaining job losses – all trampers – will be made at Goole in East Yorkshire and Barlborough in Derbyshire.

The company says the total will be fewer than 200.

A Stobart statement says: “A number of factors have contributed to this decision but, primarily, new systems and planning technology have allowed us to identify areas to cut costs within the business while still maintaining high levels of service to customers.”

A spokesman says the three sites will remain open and that day and night driving positions are unaffected but that those working away from home Monday to Friday are at risk.

Last month Stobart Group said it was looking to improve margins through cost reductions and efficiencies after reporting an 8.6% fall in pre-tax profits.
