Laurie Dealer applauds any dealer willing to go that extra mile to help hauliers drive down costs. And news that Barnes Group, the DAF dealer in West Sussex , has invested in two Haweka TA-20 wheel aligners to help customers save costs on fuel and tyres is very welcome.

Trailer tyres, not listed in the super-injunction by the BBC's Andrew Marr, yesterday.

Alan Matthews, group service manager, says the two aligners from Haweka were brought in after seeing a demonstration of the equipment in the workshops.

"The TA-20 is the leading alignment system in the UK, taking less than 10 minutes to accurately measure every angle on a truck in the as driven position," he says. "There is no need to lift the vehicle. The alignment system can be used on twin steer, rigid, semi-trailers and buses.

"Wheel alignment offers a cost effective solution to the customer with greater tyre life and better fuel economy," he says. "The cost of checking and adjusting the alignment of the steering is less than the cost of one new tyre."

One degree of wheel misalignment can increase fuel consumption by 5%, says the manufacturer of the products.
