FJ Need picks Volvo thanks to back up

As the old saying goes, sales sell the first truck aftermarket sells the next.

That has certainly rung true for Nantwich-based FJ Need (Foods) who quoted ‘top class back-up from the local dealer, Thomas Hardie Commercials at Middlewich’ as the main reason for making its fleet 100% Volvo.

Transport manager Simon Platt says: “Although the Volvos suit our operation in terms of running costs and price, we were heavily influenced in our decision to take on the two new FHs by the quality of service we receive from Thomas Hardie Commercials.

“In particular, the support we get from Neil Tilley at their Middlewich depot is part and parcel of that decision.”

FJ Need (Foods) have operated Volvos since September 2006 and the addition of two FH-500 6x2 units brings the fleet up to five. The two new Volvos are on three-year contract hire from Thomas Hardie Commercials and maintenance is carried out at their nearby Middlewich workshops.

Trucks due for scheduled servicing are collected by the dealer and delivered back the same day. Both new FHs are equipped with automated I-Shift transmissions, Globetrotter cabs, leather upholstery and microwave ovens.

Simon Platt also praises Volvo’s I-Shift as a significant factor in improving wear on drive axle tyres. “We’re getting an additional 40,000kms on drive axle tyres on trucks with I-Shift,” he reports.
