Quick Questions: Commercial Motor meets Adam Harris, network director, Iveco UK and Ireland
RB: What is your favourite holiday destination?
AH: A static campsite in northern Italy; it’s great for the kids and for Prosecco.
RB: What car do you drive?
AH: A Fiat 500X.
RB: What are your hobbies?
AH: Hillwalking, supporting Liverpool Football Club and everything to do with trucks.
RB: How did you get into the industry?
AH: I joined Iveco Ford in 1989 as a graduate entry accountant, working in Watford and at the Langley factory where the Cargo was produced. The commercial and industrial elements of the truck industry interested me the most. I took a year out in 1994 to work in Australia, however, I couldn’t keep away from the industry, and so I rejoined Iveco in 1995 in the dealer operations team. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to hold several interesting positions, including business development manager and financial controller. I have worked for extended periods for various dealer groups, including Iveco Retail.
RB: How would you encourage more young people into the industry?
AH: Use the media and other channels to promote opportunities. I am an advocate of Iveco’s apprentice scheme, which we promote through our partners. It is an innovative, vibrant, technical and stimulating industry from every perspective with great opportunities for development.
RB: What is the outlook for your sector of the market over the next 12 months?
AH: We’re going to see an increasing interest in alternative-fuel vehicles. The UK market will see small growth and there will be pressure on margins for everyone - dealers, operators and OEMs.
