Meachers sees job applications rocket
The ultra-competitive state of the jobs market has been highlighted by Meachers Global Logistics, which says it had 150 candidates for two recent vacancies.
In addition, the Southampton-based firm has recruited five apprentices over the last 12 months to specialise in all areas of the business, including finance, traffic operations, HR and warehousing management.
Stuart Terris, deputy MD, tells Roadtransport.com: "We decided to invest in a generation who could thrive in what is becoming an increasingly professional industry. This will make our company even more skilled in the long run."
He says for the last two positions there were some 150 applications.
Terris concludes: "Perhaps the tough economy has prompted so much interest, but I think many are starting to realise this is still an attractive industry, and that Meachers is a strong company to be part of."
