Twitter shower rant does the trick

Shower facilities at Sandbach services in Cheshire are to be upgraded after an LGV driver took to Twitter to complain about their "woeful" state.

Driver Lee Cunnigham, who tweets under the name Joes Dad ‏@therealtramper, took to the social network site to vent his frustration after stopping at the Roadchef services earlier this month.

Describing the shower room for commercial vehicle drivers at the services as "disgusting, stinky and rotten", Cunningham who runs two trucks as Cunningham & Daughter (Haulage) doing container work, took photos and posted them on Twitter.

When contacted by CM over the complaints, Roadchef said it would begin upgrading the tired facilities immediately.

A Roadchef spokeswoman commented: "We would like to apologise to this customer for the less than acceptable state of the shower area at Sandbach services, on this day in question.

"Roadchef prides itself on the cleanliness of its facilities and so this situation is highly embarrassing and one that we are currently rectifying."

The spokeswoman added that the Sandbach shower room was currently being upgraded and it was implementing a key exchange system - where users hand in their vehicle keys in return for the shower key, and the shower area is then checked for cleanliness by a dedicated member of staff before the keys are returned - to ensure "a clean and hygienic environment".

Meanwhile, Moto Services has said the condition of its driver showers at Wetherby has improved since is started charging for them.
