Merger of trailer manufacturers Jumbo and Groenewegen
The establishment of the new entity Groep Jumbo Groenwegen B.V. on October 13 cements the cooperation between Jumbo Fabriek van Aanhangers en Opleggers B.V. and Groenewegen Industries B.V. This merger combines the strengths of the two companies, while each brand can grow further in its own market segment. "Our companies are an ideal fit together," states Lambert van der Meulen, director-owner of Jumbo who will now be part of the new company's senior management team. "We share the same vision on trailer production. We both maintain high quality standards, and we both exclusively produce to customer specifications. Our companies are linked in our passion to create high-end transport solutions for valued customers. " Consolidation The cooperation is an important step towards consolidation in the trailer construction market. "We have spent a long time thinking about this merger. Two of the oldest trailer manufacturers in the Netherlands have come together," says Boudewijn Wellink, now general director for the Groep Jumbo Groenwegen B.V. "The challenging economic climate is pushing organizations to seek strategic partnerships to take advantage of opportunities that arise in turbulent times. Our companies complement each other in both product assortment and customer types, enabling us to grow with two strong brands both inside and outside European markets." Synergies In the new company, the Jumbo division will continue to focus on special trailers for heavy and special transportation needs. The Groenewegen division will continue its focus on trailers for the logistics and fine distribution segments. Engineering will be one of several areas of synergy, as both companies have a high level of specialized technical know-how that can be shared. Management Current Groenewegen shareholders will hold 70 percent of the shares of the new holding company Groep Jumbo Groenwegen B.V. Jumbo shareholders will hold 30 percent. The group has production locations in Helmond and Etten-Leur in the Netherlands, and in Tesanj in Bosnia-Herzegovina. All three locations are fully equipped to take on different parts of the production process as required. Van der Meulen and Wellink will be joined in the senior management team by Cartoef van Panhuys as financial director.
