Due to the world's largest sporting event taking place in London next summer, the date of the 2012 Motor Transport Awards has been brought forward a month with the ceremony taking place on Wednesday 13 June at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

With 18 different categories, including Haulier of the Year, Best Use of Technology, Dealer of the Year, and Safety in Operation, there is something to suit everyone, and there are likely to be some new categories for 2012. The call for entries will open on 9 January 2012; the deadline for all categories is 16 March.

The judging of each category involves an independent panel of judges hand-picked by the Motor Transport team and takes place across two-days, usually in April.

Dubbed the transport industry Oscars, this year's awards went all-out to celebrate the achievements of the industry as it was the 25th anniversary of the first Motor Transport Awards. Grocontinental was named Haulier of the Year for the second time, while Suttons won the Safety Award for the fourth time. The Service to Industry Award was given to Stewart Oades, president of the FTA, and the Mercedes-Benz Axor won Fleet Truck of the Year for the third time and the first time since 2007.
