Short semi-trailer for urban distribution
In most cities Dutch cities as well as cities abroad trucks may not exceed 10 meters to enter the city centre. A semi-trailer of 10.6 meters, the so-called City Trailers, is too long. A regular van is a solution, but does not offer the flexibility of a tractor unit with semi-trailer. For this challenge Groenewegen has developed a 7,25 meter long semi-trailer. This short semi-trailer, in combination with a tractor unit, gives a total length of just under 10 meter. Another advantage of the InnerCity Trailer is that the tractor unit, while the semi-trailer is being loading, can still be used for other assignments. The Darvi Transport company of Bergen op Zoom in The Netherlands (part of Meeus group), specialising in kitchen distribution, has ordered four of these trailers. Like all Groenewegen trailers, the Inner City Trailer also comes with a cargo security certificate according to VDI 2700 and EN12642 standards code XL ("TÜV XL").
