DAF’s 34 sales locations across the UK and Ireland are set to become certified electric truck centres.
To support operators in their transition to electric vehicles, the company is planning to install electric truck infrastructure and fully equip workshops with diagnostic, service and repair facilities for these vehicles. The plan comes with a commitment to upskill technicians in the safe and efficient handling of the repair and maintenance of electric vehicles.
EV and sustainability manager, Adam Bennett, said: "We're right on track for the deployment of electric trucks into the market. Our experience on the Battery Electric Truck Trial (BETT) has been invaluable, allowing us to invest strategically in the network. We’ve assessed the market, gauged customer acceptance, performed cost analyses and we’re confident that we’re transitioning the DAF Dealer network at the right pace.”
On the sales side, DAF will employ trained specialists to aid operators in understanding how a battery electric vehicle can fit into their business model. This consultation will run alongside electric truck demonstrators with at least one based locally as well as access to a national electric demonstrator fleet for vehicles suited to a wide range of applications.
All electric truck centres will be equipped with fast charging to a minimum of 180kW DC charging. DAF Service centres will benefit from a minimum of 24kW charging in workshops. For customers deploying electric vehicles DAF offers PACCAR chargers from 7kW AC charging for cars and vans up to 360kW DC chargers for the largest trucks.
Gary Carpenter, Chair of the DAF Trucks National Dealer Council, added, “The DAF Dealer Network is committed to supporting our customers as they transition to zero emissions and, by investing in the right locations at the right pace, we can ensure we have the personnel, expertise and infrastructure in place for them.”
Supporting the need for more technicians trained in EV maintenance, all DAFaid technicians will be trained to IMI Level 1 for electric trucks which qualifies them to offer roadside assistance. Technicians based in the workshop will be trained to IMI Level 3 which will be accompanied by DAF-specific electric truck product training.
