Supplied by Sparks Commercial Services, Broughton Transport Solutions has taken delivery of the first of two Renault Trucks T520 High 6x2 pusher tractor units. After a successful trial of the Range T High, the temperature-controlled and ambient transport specialist chose Renault Trucks for good fuel economy, performance and driver satisfaction.

Based out of the company’s Melksham site, the trucks will be put to work on long-haul international jobs. Toby Ovens, managing director at Broughton Transport Solutions said: “There is a growing appetite for premium British meat on the continent, and the addition of these Renault Trucks’ vehicles to our fleet is essential to meet the demands of our consistently busy workload.

“Putting the T High to the test in various real-world working scenarios allowed the vehicle to prove itself in long-distance work and it performed admirably across the board. Despite encountering some challenging weather conditions and hilly terrain, the T520 High demonstrator performed very well on fuel, and its AdBlue consumption was around half that of competitor vehicles used for similar work, which can translate into a significant operating cost saving. The driver also praised the well-designed cab, noting its spaciousness and excellent ride.”

Broughton’s trucks are equipped with a 13-litre engine with a maximum torque of 2550Nm, paired with the Optidriver AT 2612 gearbox with an automatic clutch. Inside, the cabs have heated and ventilated driver’s seats, leather steering wheel and insulated cab curtains. The company also specified a fridge, microwave and additional rear lockers.

Ovens said: “My drivers can be out for two weeks at a time and keeping them happy is a top priority. That’s why the T520 Highs have been highly specified with all the optional extras to make life more comfortable, productive and enjoyable during their time out on the road.”

The vehicles are on a five-year repair and maintenance contract which will be taken care of at Sparks Commercial Services in Swindon.

Ovens added: “Roger Millett at Sparks always responds promptly to any queries and has been extremely supportive of our requirements with the wider team at the dealership also extremely responsive and flexible. One of the trucks was delivered in the morning and hit the road that afternoon, heading for Calais on a two-week trip to deliver meat to Portugal and I am very pleased with its performance so far.”
