Joining a mainly Volvo fleet, R.L Proudlock & Sons has chosen Volvo again for a new Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter 6x2 tractor unit. The vehicle is plated for 65-tonne GCW operation and was supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland.

Daniel Proudlock, director at R.L Proudlock & Sons, said: “Volvo has been ever present with us practically since the company was founded, meaning that it is our natural first port of call whenever we are ready to bring on a new truck. This time around, it was no different, and while we were very fond of the ’15 plate Volvo FH this new model is replacing, it is always exciting when a new truck arrives.

“As always, Jonny has been a huge help, taking the time to fully understand exactly what we needed on the spec, ultimately securing us a twin wheel tag axle setup that allows us to have an extra two tonnes on the rear. That ensures we have a very capable truck that can handle whatever we throw at it.”

The Northumberland-based firm expects to keep the vehicle on fleet for at least three years where it will do around 120,000km annually on jobs including plant distribution, moving livestock, bulk and general haulage. The FH is fitted with a 540hp engine with maximum torque of 2,600Nm. R.L Proudlock & Sons opted for the Visibility+ package leather upholstery, heated and ventilated driver’s seat, twin bunks and full air suspension.

“Delivering heavy plant equipment can be particularly challenging when you consider the tight country roads and farmland we have to tackle, so having the ability to easily adjust the truck’s ride height as needed is really valuable,” adds Proudlock. “We take a lot of pride in our Volvo fleet, so anything we can do to avoid those minor bumps and scrapes that come with our line of work is warmly welcomed.”
