Cambridgeshire-based Bretts Transport is refreshing and growing its fleet with Scania dealer TruckEast. Last year, the company took delivery of a flagship 16-litre Scania 660 S truck to celebrate its 90th anniversary. Five 500 S Super 13-litre trucks have also been added to the fleet and another five are on order, expected to be delivered in the first quarter of this year.

Simon Brett, managing director of Bretts Transport, said: “For all our requirements, when looking at new vehicles, Scania has long been the most suited. Fuel economy, reliability, service from the dealer and cost are all important factors we consider. The drivers’ own acceptance of the vehicles has always been on our list of priorities too, but these days it’s more important than ever. Scania trucks always prove very popular with our drivers.”

Since 2018 TruckEast has supplied 51 new trucks to the haulier. Some vehicles are owned and others are taken on five-year contract hire agreements with repair and maintenance packages. The new 500 SSuper engines improve fuel efficiency and can save 1mpg compared to the 450 S model.

Specified with the largest Scania S-cab, the trucks feature flat floors to make it easy for the driver to move through the cab. The trucks are also fitted with a microwave, fridge, ventilated seats, arm rest and tray table.

James Crouch, sales manager of TruckEast, said: “The spec of a vehicle these days, especially since the driver shortage, can have a huge influence on attracting the right people to work for you. Simon’s decision to once again invest in S-cabs allows Bretts to enhance the drivers working environment and create a home-from-home experience.”

The Euro 6 compliant vehicles have been retrofitted with additional safety features by Bretts Transport’s in-house workshop team to make them DVS compliant, bringing half of the fleet up to this standard.

Scania will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 4-6 June. Registrations are now open, so book your free place now!
