Undy Building & Timber Supplies, based in the Monmouthshire village of the same name, a builders' merchant based in South Wales, has acquired a new delivery truck from Euro Commercials to replace its long-serving Mercedes-Benz Atego. Due to the exceptional performance and durability of its predecessor, which had been in service for an impressive 20 years, the company opted for the same again.
The new Atego is a 1321 model featuring a 210 hp, 5.1-litre engine with a ClassicSpace S day cab. Neath Bodybuilders fitted the chassis with an alloy tipper, and a Hiab X-Duo 078 loader crane with a Kinshofer grab was also added, boasting a rating of 7.4 tonne/metres and a maximum outreach of 11.6 metres.
Established nearly 50 years ago, Undy Building & Timber Supplies, run by Pam and Terry Wood, operates from its depot in just off the M4 near Magor. The company sells construction materials and provides delivery services to trade and DIY customers in surrounding towns, including Caldicot, Chepstow, and Newport.
Pam Wood said “Given the fantastic performance and longevity of our previous Atego, we were never really going to consider anything else when we came to replace it. The old truck never let us down and still looked great, while the service from Euro Commercials over the years has always been excellent. Sales executive Huw Salway sold us that vehicle but our relationship goes back even further. We bought our first Mercedes-Benz from him back in 1995 and he has been a trusted supplier to our business ever since, so we were very happy to hand him the order for this latest vehicle.”
The new Atego will be driven by the Woods' son, Michael, who added “At 13.5 tonnes GVW this model combines a very useful payload of over five tonnes, while maintaining a relatively compact footprint and excellent manoeuvrability. It’s a lovely truck to drive and we’re looking forward to many years of dependable service.”
- Mercedes-Benz will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
