Hartshorne Group has supplied Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining with a pair of Volvo FE Electric 6x2 rigids.
The trucks, which were supplied by Daniel Byworth, area sales manager at Hartshorne Group, join a fleet of 90 vehicles and replace two similar spec diesel-powered trucks.
Wayne Allen, Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining’s northern compliance manager, said: “Sustainability is a subject close to our hearts, hence why we’re proud to already be a carbon neutral and FORS Gold accredited business, but we also recognise that there remains significant potential to further decarbonise our fleet. That’s why we’re delighted to be welcoming these two new Volvo FE Electrics. The trucks’ arrival will make an immediate impact in reducing our carbon footprint, while also extending the environmental benefits of electric trucking to our customers too.”
The FEs are equipped with four batteries to provide a range of around 190km. Charging with a 150kW DC charger can replenish the battery in 2.3 hours. Two electric motors power the rigids and they feature a 2-speed transmission. A traction control system supports good grip over slippery surfaces and driving modes control comfort, performance and energy usage. One truck will be put to work in and around Sheffield with the other focusing on the Birmingham area.
Allen said: “With these vehicles, we wanted to underline that it is not just London that is embracing electric mobility. The Volvo team has worked tirelessly to fully evaluate how and where these electric trucks can thrive in our fleet, and we can’t wait to start putting them to work. The drivers have already commented on just how smooth and enjoyable the trucks are to operate – they are delivering a far more relaxing and peaceful drive than the diesel models they replaced!”
The trucks are on a Volvo Gold Contract for repair and maintenance and are likely to stay on fleet for five years working five days a week.
Volvo will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 4-6 June. Registrations are now open, so book your free place now!
