Thomas Hardie Commercials has supplied HMT Group with seven new Volvo tractor units. The new FH 460 Globetrotter XL 6x2s join an all-Volvo fleet.
Four of the Volvo FHs will be put to work on double shifts six days a week. During the day they will be used for general local haulage jobs and then Palletline work at night. The other three will work on tramping operations.
Mark Gallagher, UK general manager, HMT Group, said: “We’ve been running Volvos on the fleet as long as I can remember, so we’re well versed in what the trucks bring to the table. The I-Save technology creates such an enjoyable driving experience which, combined with the spacious Globetrotter XL cab, makes for a complete all-round build.
“Volvo’s reliability and performance are second to none – factors which make running our business far easier. Going forward, we do not see a future where we’d consider acquiring any other manufacturer.”
The trucks were supplied by Karl Davies, customer solutions manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials. All seven are equipped with D13TC Euro-6(e) engines with 460hp and 2,600Nm of torque. HMT Group opted for I-Save which uses turbo-compounding technology to allow lower revs and a higher gear for longer periods of time to maximise fuel efficiency. I-Save also uses the I-See predictive cruise control system along with I-Cruise and I-Roll to anticipate topography changes to optimise fuel consumption.
Gallagher said: “Any new vehicle you welcome into a business like ours has to earn its wage, so we make sure to have them on the road as much as possible. Thankfully, the robustness of the Volvo product makes that work a breeze.”
Drivers benefit from the Globetrotter XL cab which has a Drive++ package, adding leather upholstery, heated seat and a microwave. The Media package with navigation was also specified so there’s a 12in instrument display and DAB radio.
Volvo Trucks UK will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 4-6 June. Registrations are now open, so book your free place now!
