Sittingbourne, Kent-based JBS Haulage Contractors has added a new Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter XL 6x2 tractor unit to its expanding fleet. The decision to invest in the 6x2 tractor was primarily driven by a combination of a positive experience with other Volvos on the fleet, and decent availability.
Commenting on the truck, which was supplied by Jack Nutley, truck sales executive at MC Truck & Bus, Jason Whent, director at JBS Haulage Contractors, said: "I’ve always been a big Volvo fan. We have several Volvos currently on the fleet and they never let us down. It’s a good truck, the drivers all like them, and it’s no different with this latest FH."
JBS Haulage Contractors typically replaces about 10 trucks annually, and the availability and lead time played a crucial role in its purchasing decision.
The newly added FH boasts a D13K, Euro-6(d) engine with 540hp and a maximum torque of 2,600Nm. It features the 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, which is complemented by the I-See predictive cruise control system.
Inside the Globetrotter XL cab, drivers are treated to a range of creature comforts, including an adjustable steering wheel, air conditioning, tinted glass roof hatch, and leather upholstery. The cab is equipped with a one-bed Living+ package, offering a premium mattress topper and a luxury sleeper control panel. Additional amenities include ample storage space, an under-bunk fridge, and a microwave. The truck also features Volvo's Media package with navigation and a dynamic 12in high-resolution instrument cluster. Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels set off the exterior.
The truck is expected to cover approximately 100,000 to 120,000km per annum, mainly transporting materials such as plastic guttering and fascia boards to builders' merchants across the UK.
JBS Haulage Contractors, which was established in 1995, operates a fleet of over 50 trucks and has a secondary depot in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.
