Harris DAF has opened a purpose-built workshop in Grays, Essex. The five-bay workshop and ATF service centre joins the dealer group’s locations in High Wycombe, Lea Valley and Witham and VMU facilities in Slough and Harlow. Over the next year the company will employ 15 technicians and five DAF apprentices to work at the new site.
Conveniently located adjacent to its existing Thurrock MOT premises, the 900 square-metre workshop sits on a two acre plot. Should demand exceed current capacity there is planning permission to extend the workshop to provide the space needed for ten bays. On weekdays the Grays site will operate around the clock and the weekends will be limited to daytime opening hours. At night the BM roller-brake tester is expected to perform 50 vehicle tests which will rise to 100 at full capacity.
Managing Director, Gary Carpenter, said: “We’re excited with the potential that our new workshop provides for operators. Demand from customers for a high level of service is only increasing and we expect to be very busy going forward. The new workshop means job opportunities for DAF apprentices and for technicians more widely.
“With electric vehicles beginning to enter the market in growing numbers, now is an exciting time to embark on a workshop career, and here at Grays we utilise state-of-the-art equipment and deliver first-class training to provide a wide-ranging skillset. Grays is at the forefront of truck servicing and support, and I would urge those with an interest in trucks and transport to experience the DAF difference.”
DAF currently offers electric versions of its XD, XF and XB models. Supporting its electric range DAF has electric truck centres dotted around the UK to sell and service these vehicles, complete with PACCAR chargers. In total, the DAF dealer network spans 137 locations in the UK and Ireland with 56 ATF points and 13 sites for Pet. Reg. and ADR service and maintenance.
