10 new MAN TGXs for PD Ports

Dawsongroup truck and trailer has supplied PD Ports with 10 MAN TGX XLX 26.470 6x2 tractor units.

The trucks are on a five-year contract agreement which includes full repair and maintenance. PD Ports also benefits from 24-hour breakdown cover with replacement vehicles provided if necessary. Tyres are the only thing excluded from the R&M contract. 

Alongside the standard safety equipment, the MAN TGX trucks have additional safety features. These include an audible handbrake system/driver alert, talking reverse alarm and smoke alarm. The vehicles are all DVS compatible and CAZ- and ULEZ-compliant. Inside, drivers are treated to a fridge, microwave and coffee machine. 

Gary Archer, engineering services manager for PD Ports, said: “PD Ports has an active and ongoing investment strategy across its sites, and these new vehicles are part of that. Our business continues to grow, so a high proportion of these are fleet additions. We have had good service from Dawsongroup truck and trailer over the past six years, when they first helped us with some peak demand vehicle needs. They have never let us down, so we were confident in their ability to help us manage the R&M contract to keep any potential downtime to a minimum.”

The TGX units will be based out of the company’s Groveport site. As such, the trucks are liveried with ‘Groveport’ across the top of the cab. Groveport is a 190-acre site on the River Trent that specialises in steel, forest products and dry bulk cargo.

It’s ideally positioned just three miles from the M181 to connect its operations to the north of England. Looking towards transport overseas, the company has good access to the sea via the Humber Estuary. With good connections, capacity, infrastructure and service, PD Ports offers handling, stockholder and distribution services for several of the UK’s large steel suppliers.
