Warwickshire Search and Rescue (WarkSAR) will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo later this month to raise awareness of the key work it carries out in the county.
The Midlands-based charity is one of 36 operational Lowland Rescue teams in the UK, set up to assist police and the fire service with searches for vulnerable, missing people.
On call for 24 hours every day, the WarkSAR team comprises 40 fully-trained volunteers that carry out searches on land, in water using kayaks, and via aerial drones.
The charity is run purely on donations and money raised through fund-raising activities.
These include activities such as marshalling at mass participation sporting events in return for small donations, public-facing talks, bucket shakes at local supermarkets, and applying for relevant local grants.
It is currently looking to buy and equip a Water Incident Support Unit, which is a major investment for the small charity.
This will likely take the form of a Mercedes Sprinter L3 H2 van converted into a vehicle that can carry a team of six people and their swift-water rescue kit, four kayaks and associated life jackets for bank searching, medical equipment, low-pressure washers for cleaning down kit, and team welfare equipment.
WarkSAR would welcome any form of sponsorship opportunities from Road Transport Expo exhibitors and visitors wanting to associate themselves with the charity.
It can also provide unusual activities for businesses such as the opportunity to train search dogs, or be a missing person for a day on a training exercise to understand the rescue process.
