Premier Pits will be heading back to the Road Transport Expo (RTX) in June with its new Premier Hinged Cover.

The patented cover is a fall-protection system that uses 2.5m steel mesh panels, which are air-operated and controlled with pneumatic cylinders linked to a central control unit.

As well as a fall-protection system, the cover acts as a handrail for pit stairs for safe entry and exit.

Retrofitting additional pit features like covers can involve extensive groundwork or reduce pit length. However, Premier Pits’ design maintains the maximum working space and requires minimal disruption to install. The cover is suitable to add to new or existing pits made from steel, concrete, or brick.

Traditional cover solutions generally use a storage cassette but due to the design of the Premier Hinged Cover, the system doesn’t need this.

Alongside its newest product, Premier Pits offers a range of authorised testing facility (ATF) and maintenance pits, as well as additional safety equipment including covers, barriers and pit bridges.

Prefabricated pits are offered in standard designs or customisation options are available to suit different workshops.

Premier Pits' customers can make use of a handy online pit builder to help them visualise the equipment required to improve the safety and efficiency of a pit, whilst the company offers full installation services, which are planned to minimise the impact on workshop activities.

As well as being a pit specialist, Premier Pits also supplies under-chassis wash pits and ramps and is the UK distributor of Australian-manufactured BrakeMate - a system that reduces the manual lifting needed during heavy vehicle brake disc maintenance.

Instead of requiring two people to do the job, one technician is able to complete the process using BrakeMate, which is estimated to shave around an hour off the time it takes to change a single disc.

Road Transport Expo takes place from 4-6 June at NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire and features more than 250 exhibitors and a three-day conference programme. Aimed at HGV fleet operators and supporting businesses, it is completely free to attend for visitors, so why not book your place today?
