Commercialmotor.com catches up with Neil Willis, head of used trucks UK & Ireland at Renault Trucks to find out how the used truck market reacted in 2023.

How has the used truck market been in 2023?

It’s been a year of two halves, with the first half a similar marketplace to 2022 where demand outweighed supply, whereas the second half has seen more used trucks hitting the market due to new truck deliveries and lower lead times.

What have been the challenges in the used truck market this year?

The two stand out challenges:

  • Explaining to customers that the new normal for the average mileage of returning tractor units is now 500K km plus
  • The general cost of borrowing, both for new and used trucks.
