DfT improves clarity of EU drivers' hours and working time advice

The DfT has simplified its EU drivers’ hours and working time guidance.

The updated guidance, which is available on the DfT website, has been produced with trade associations and unions to help HGV drivers better understand how EU drivers’ hours and working time rules work together.

It gives examples of when weekly and daily rest should be taken; explains the tachograph mode switches and what they should be used for; and explains how much driving can be done in one day. It also provides case studies looking at how the rules work in real-life scenarios.

The DfT said the guidance is not a substitute for the full drivers’ hours rules and guidance it provides.
