The DVSA has published an updated version of its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.

This year’s guide replaces one that was published in 2014 and the latest version can be accessed online.

Updates in the 2018 version include a new section about safety inspection and repair facilities, new advice on tyre management, a section on maintaining an emissions control system and information about the DVSA Earned Recognition Scheme.

There is also new advice on roller brake testing.

The DVSA said: “Every safety inspection must assess the braking performance of a the vehicle or trailer. We strongly advise that a laden roller brake test is carried out at every safety inspection. The guide now includes details of how to use EBPMS and has more advice on brake testing.

“If the road test is being used to assess the brakes, we now recommend that brake temperature readings should be measured and recorded on the safety inspection report.”
