North Lincolnshire Council has launched an investigation into the death of a lorry driver at Immingham Transport's North East Lincolnshire site.

The HGV driver, believed to be a 38 year old Bulgarian man, was involved in an accident on 24 February while at Immingham site in South Killingholme.

It is understood the driver, who was not employed by Immingham Transport, was working for another firm and had been sent to pick up a trailer from the site.

No one was available to speak to Commercialmotor.com at Immingham Transport this week. However, in a statement released to local press last week, the company said: “Our thoughts and condolences go to the driver's family.

"An incident occurred at one of our sites in South Killingholme in which an LGV driver tragically lost his life. We understand the driver was employed locally and was on the site to collect an empty trailer on behalf of the customer.

"We have been able to pass on information that will assist the police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with their investigation."

"It is not appropriate to comment further at this stage."

North Lincolnshire Council said: “We can confirm that North Lincolnshire Council is investigating a fatal accident at a business address in South Killingholme on Friday 24 February. We cannot comment any further at this time.”

A statement from Humberside Police said officers were called to the scene by the ambulance service at around 2.45pm.

The police said: “Investigations are underway after a 38-year-old man sadly died at a business in Humber Road, South Killingholme.

“The man was pronounced dead at the scene and while he is still to be formally identified, he is understood to be a Bulgarian national who had been living in London.

“The matter has been left in the hands of North Lincolnshire Council. Our thoughts are with his family.”

The HSE said: “We can confirm that this incident is to be investigated by the local authority.”
