The director of a County Tyrone-based firm that filed incorrect VAT returns has received a suspended prison sentence.
HMRC claimed it was owed £380,000 in unpaid VAT by Omagh-based Lyons Haulage, of which £184,185 related to Janet Lyons’ time as a director.
Lyons, of Crevenagh Road, Omagh, pleaded guilty at Dungannon Crown Court earlier this month.
She received a 12-month sentence - suspended for three years- and was also disqualified from acting as a director of a company for five years.
Lyons told the court she became a director at the firm after her husband was disqualified. She took over at the company in 2012.
The case related to VAT fraud between September 2012 and January 2014.
HMRC said the VAT returns the business filed incorrectly suggested that no business was going into or out of the company.
A spokesman for HMRC told CM said another director is due to appear in court in August.
