Supplied by Jonny Devlin, transport solutions executive, at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, Ian Craig Haulage has taken delivery of two new Volvo FH Aero Globetrotter 6x2 mid-lift tractor units. The new trucks are the first Volvo trucks to join the fleet of 70 vehicles in a decade.
Colin Craig, director of Ian Craig Haulage, said: “In this industry you have to be open to trying new things. We’d heard a lot of positive comments about the FH Aero’s fuel efficiency from other fleets, and several factors came together to make it the right time to try them for ourselves.”
The FH Aeros are equipped with 12.8-litre 500hp turbo compound engines, which produce 300Nm more torque at low revs than the standard D13 engine with the equivalent power output. The efficient engine and aerodynamic cab are designed to optimise fuel economy.
Ian Craig Haulage has taken the vehicles on a three-year Volvo gold repair and maintenance contract. This will be taken care of 8 miles away at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland’s new vehicle maintenance unit based in Grangemouth.
Speaking about the dealer, Craig said: “Jonny’s persistence really paid off. He’s a wonderful brand ambassador for Volvo Trucks, knows his stuff, and it’s been a pleasure working with him. Nothing was too much trouble, and the result is a pair of new Volvos which look fantastic.”
The trucks feature a full leather interior, fridge, microwave and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. The Aero specification includes Volvos’ Camera Monitoring System to improve aerodynamic performance and increase the driver’s field of view. For added security when the driver is parked, a surveillance mode can be used to see outside of the vehicle even with the curtains drawn.
Ian Craig Haulage expects the trucks to cover around 150,000km annually working five days a week. So far, the vehicles are returning good fuel economy and using less AdBlue.
Volvo will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo 2025, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 24-26 June. It’s free to attend and registrations are now open.
