Chatfields opens UK’s 500th ATF lane

Chatfields has opened the 500th Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) lane in the UK.The new lane has been installed at the company’s Birtley site in County Durham and joins the group’s three other facilities in Leeds, Sheffield and Stockton.

The 500th ATF was opened yesterday by DVSA chief executive Alastair Peoples at Daf dealership Chatfields in County Durham.Marking the occasion Peoples said that almost 93% of truck, trailer and passenger vehicle testing was being conducted at private sites.He said: “I know local operators and drivers in the County Durham area will quickly see the benefits of having a greater choice of where they can have their vehicles tested.

MC Truck & Bus wins full dealership category at Isuzu Dealer Challenge

Maidstone-based MC Truck and Bus has taken top spot at the Isuzu Dealer Challenge 2015.In the event there were two award categories: Full Sales, Parts and Service Dealers; and Parts and Service Dealers only.Dealerships took part in a set of assessments to test their ability to deliver the highest level of customer service and technical expertise.After 44 teams entered the initial stages the top six were given the opportunity to compete in the final.

Volvo develops new vehicle positioning system

Volvo Trucks has designed a new vehicle positioning service that makes it possible for a haulier to monitor a truck’s location in real time.The manufacturer says with Positioning+, it is possible to track a vehicle's geographic location, minute by minute.It can also define a geographic area, a route or an entire country and allow the operator to receive messages every time a truck passes through these precise areas.

Award for Manheim mobile auction unit

Manheim’s new mobile auction unit - a modified VW Amarok Ultimate - has won an award for innovation.The 4x4 double cab pick-up, unveiled by the business at the CV Show in April, took the Fleet World Innovation in Remarketing award at a ceremony held in the RAC Club, London.By selling assets directly from de-fleet locations, leasing companies and fleet managers can avoid the logistical challenges and bills of transporting a lot of stock.

Manheim reports May average van sale increase

According to Manheim there was a steady appreciation of van sale prices across all segments in May.The latest report from the auction business revealed that the average selling price of vans from its events in May was £19 higher than April at £4,109 and with an average of 2,670 fewer miles on the clock.May’s report also highlighted that April’s record upward swing in month-on-month average age was a blip, seeing it fall back seven months to 66 months.

Volvo Trucks believes incidents of unplanned downtime can be cut by 80 per cent through increased online connectivity with trucks, following a study it conducted into the issue.In order to increase knowledge on how to help haulage companies boost their uptime, Volvo recently conducted a comprehensive survey based on real-life user data from 3,500 Volvo trucks gathered over a five-year period.
