New £3m premises for Scania Inverness

The first purpose-built Scania service centre to be built since 2006 has opened in Inverness.Based at Bridge Point in the city, the £3m facility, based on a 1.8 acre site, is the culmination of a 18-month development project.The site is ADR-ready, has a high security CCTV-monitored truck parking area, two full length pits, an ATF facility with brake tester, beam setter and shaker plate, a rolling road, tachograph bay and steam cleaning equipment.

West Road boosted by TopUsed programme

Fledgling haulier West Road Haulage has used MAN’s TopUsed programme to help get the business off the ground.The firm, founded by husband and wife Charlie and Sally West in September 2014, and based in Burton-on-Trent, has been operating with two MAN TopUsed 44 tonne TGX tractor units.It has now added two brand new 26 tonne TGM rigids and a 7.5 TGL rigid to its fleet.The haulier financed the vehicles through MAN Financial Services and has taken a repair and maintenance contract for all of them.

Lanksford appointed Fleet and Specialist Vehicle Sales Director at Scania

Kevin Lanksford has been appointed Fleet and Specialist Vehicle Sales Director for Scania (Great Britain). Lanksford, who will report directly to UK Truck Sales Director Martin Hay, has spent more than 27 years in the truck industry in a career spanning financial services, dealer group management and retail and fleet sales.He succeeds David Johnson, who will retire later this year after 32 years service.

Manheim records oldest average van age to date

According to Manheim, April saw the largest ever month-on-month increase in average van age at auction since reporting began in 2006.The company says that while mileage is relatively flat across all van segments, the average age of vans entering the used market is having a big impact on values achieved at auction.Matthew Davock, head of vans at Manheim said: “The market slowed for certain stock around Easter, specifically late plate car derived vans, along with duplication and damage.

Chris Kelly returns to Keltruck as chairman

Chris D Kelly, son of Keltruck founder and sole shareholder Chris Kelly senior, has been appointed chairman of the West Midlands Scania dealership.Kelly had served as director of the business between 2006 and 2013 and spent five years as the MP for Dudley South, retiring from the House of Commons before the recent election. His father had retired from the business in March 2012.

BCA boosts CV sales team with new appointments

Auctioneer BCA has strengthened its commercial vehicle sales team with a series of important staff appointments.Dominic Burr, who has been with the company since 2002, has assumed the new role of general manager, Belle Vue Commercials & Measham Commercials.He will report directly to regional operations director Duncan Ward. Ward retains overall responsibility for BCA’s commercial vehicle sales programme which operates at eight centres nationwide.

Imperial Commercials opens 2.2-acre Swindon service and parts facility

Daf Trucks dealer group Imperial Commercials has opened its new purpose-built service and parts facility in Swindon.The new 2.2-acre freehold site - located at Dorcan on the A149 just off junction 15 of the M4 - replaces Imperial’s existing site at the Britannia Trade Park in the Wiltshire town.All existing staff will relocate to the new facility and the company is recruiting for extra HGV technicians.

Six of the best rewarded at MAN dealer awards

The MAN network in the UK has been celebrating its successes at the company’s annual Dealer of the Year Awards event.Trophies were presented during the event held at the Powerscourt Hotel Dublin, recognising the success of small, medium and large dealers throughout the UK.The winners were AN Richards of Llangollen (small), Imperial Commercials of Peterborough (medium) and DSV Commercials of Immingham (large).They will receive £10,000 each to invest in their businesses.
