Following the purchase of two trailers from Fruehauf last year, Carnegie Fuels has taken delivery of six new tippers from the firm. Based in Brechin, the company will use the stepframe Smoothsider tippers for the agricultural side of its business. The trailers will be used to transport potatoes to companies across England as well as delivering malt and barley to whisky producers in Scotland.
Director Kevin Carnegie said: “The initial trailers from Fruehauf were the perfect spec for our business and really impressed, so it was a no-brainer to put in a larger order to help with the company’s growth.
“Thanks to the firm’s significant production capabilities in Grantham, it was able to deliver these new units in time for this summer’s harvest, unlike other trailer manufacturers who were offering much longer lead times.
“Now, more than half our bulk tippers are from Fruehauf – and for good reason. It makes great trailers that are very well built and look fantastic.”
Carnegie Fuels has a fleet of 26 trucks and 15 bulk tipping trailers. The latest additions have a 70 cubic yard capacity and are fitted with remote control weight loaders and electric easy sheets. These functions can both be operated from inside the cab.
“The two systems are important for our business and excellent aids for our drivers, allowing them to closely monitor loading and unloading, while ensuring load security and safety in transport,” Carnegie said.
The family-run business was founded in 1981 and, as its name suggests, built its business around fuel distribution, covering domestic, commercial and agricultural fuel. It’s since diversified into more general haulage, specialising in short and medium distance haulage across Scotland and the UK.
Fruehauf was acquired by MV Commercial in 2021. Under new ownership, the company’s Grantham site has been modernised along with significant investment into the brand and its staff.
