Quantron has committed to rolling out 14 hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) across the Tees Valley region. The trial vehicles will be part of the deployment of 20 fuel cell vehicles in the project which is supported by a £7 million investment from the UK government.

The trucks will receive adequate refuelling facilities thanks to Exolum which will build a hydrogen refuelling station in the Tees Valley. This public site will use green hydrogen made from electrolysis. The project will see 12 Quantron QLI FCEV light transporters between 4- to 7-tonnes and two QHM FCEV heavy trucks deployed, weighing in at 19-tonnes.

Andreas Haller, CEO and founder of Quantron AG, said: “We are proud to be a part of this initiative. Bringing our innovative Quantron INSIDE technology to the UK marks a significant step forward in our global strategy and we are delighted to do this in collaboration with our partner Novuna. These vehicles will be the very first RHD fuel cell trucks with the Quantron badge on the grill, they will be the first of their kind to open international RHD markets for us.”

Quantron anticipates customer deliveries will begin Q1 2025. The trucks will be built and deployed in collaboration with leasing and fleet management provider Novuna Vehicle Solutions, alongside Electra Commercial Vehicles, a fuel cell electric vehicle manufacturer.

Utz Rachner, global sales director of Quantron AG, said: “Thanks to the strong cooperation with Novuna, we were able to participate successfully in the Tees Valley Project and we will bring hydrogen vehicles to the UK market that reflect our commitment to sustainability, setting a new environmentally friendly standard for commercial vehicles, powered by clean hydrogen.”

As well as funding from the Department of Transport, in partnership with Innovate UK, Novuna Vehicle Solutions has received £2.1 million as part of the Tees Valley Hydrogen Vehicle Ecosystem Consortium.
