South Coast Logistics has taken delivery of five Volvo FM 460 6x2 tractor units adding to its fleet of 85 vehicles. The Fermoy-based firm will put the new trucks to work on bulk ADR jobs in the province of Munster and across the south of Ireland.
Damien Healy, director at South Coast Logistics, said: “We’ve grown dramatically over the last decade and as a result, our fleet has had to undergo significant transformations. Given our prior experience with Volvos within our fleet, we have an acute understanding of the exceptional quality and reliability that comes with these new FMs. We’re very much looking forward to seeing just how well the trucks perform across the next 12 months.”
The FMs are fitted with Volvo’s Euro-6 Step E engine which is capable of 460hp and 2,300Nm of torque. The power unit is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to optimise fuel consumption.
Healy added: “Volvo is a very popular brand amongst our drivers. I even had a few of the guys come to me to ask in person if I could do anything to make sure they got put in these new FMs. Given how hard our drivers work, if they’re happy then we’re happy.”
The Lemon Glow paintwork is complemented by Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and each truck is specified with a Globetrotter cab. South Coast Logistics picked optional drive, living and media packages which add fully electronic air conditioning, dual armrests on the driver’s seat, extra rear cab storage, a cab parking heater and a 12-inch instrument cluster. The trucks are fitted with safety aids such as reverse and passenger side mirror cameras, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning systems.
The FMs are expected to cover 100,000 km annually working within intermodal road tanker transport, storage and site services in industries including food, pharmaceuticals and petrochemical.
