The independent steel stockholder Uptonsteel has taken delivery of four custom-built curtainside trailers from Schmitz Cargobull. The S.CS COIL units will be used to bolster the company’s next day distribution services across the country. The trailers were specially made to suit jobs that involve collecting steel coils from docks. These are transported to Uptonsteel’s Leicestershire base, processed into steel sheets and delivered to customers.
Rob Wynne, operations manager at Uptonsteel, said: “The Schmitz Cargobull curtainsider trailers are proving to be the perfect solution for us, with improved payload capability and reduced fuel consumption. We bought our first Schmitz Cargobull trailer last year, which we were very impressed with. They have been true to their word, with every trailer arriving exactly how they said it was going to be.”
The curtainsiders were supplied by Aaron Howarth, area sales manager, East Midlands at Schmitz Cargobull. They feature galvanised MODULUS bolted chassis with a 10-year warranty against rust-through on all galvanised parts. This is designed to minimise maintenance costs and ensure the trailers have good residual values. A sliding roof provides access for loading and inside heavy lashing packages and stanchions give plenty of options to secure steel coil loads.
Wynne added: “The 10-year warranty on the galvanised chassis is a big plus point for us, the trailers are always loaded when working and the challenging weather conditions takes its toll on chassis structures. We have seen deterioration on other products much sooner than we expected. The overall build quality of these trailers is the best we have seen on the market to date.”
The trailers are liveried in Uptonsteel’s branding and feature designs on the rear doors to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary of offering steel processing and distribution services. The units will be paired with DAF tractors from a fleet of circa 30 trucks.
