Tiger Trailers is half way through delivering an order of 167 trailers to Asda. Of the tri-axle box van moving deck double deck trailers, 147 will be based across the UK and 20 will be used on Asda’s Northern Ireland ferry operations. The units feature space for up to 44 pallets and have a three quarter length moving deck to aid loading and unloading operations. This is powered by a 4-ram hydraulic system that’s built by Tiger Trailers in house.
Peter Hey, Asda’s fleet procurement manager, said: “We have collaborated with the Tiger team individuals in previous companies, but this order is the first time that we have worked with them directly at Tiger. Engagement with the Tiger team was excellent from the outset, including a number of visits to their factory, and we are extremely happy with the trailers that they have produced. Tiger’s support has been fantastic throughout.”
Tiger Trailers’ manufacturing facility is based in Cheshire. This allows customers to be closely involved in the production process and expedites delivery times. Alongside standard specification trailers, Tiger can work with customers to design bespoke articulated trailers and rigid bodywork depending on requirements.
In collaboration with the team at Asda, the new double deck trailers were designed to transport UK pallets and cages. Externally, Asda opted to fit several warning and information labels to enhance safety on the road and in its yards. For the company’s RoRo operations, a ferry trestle support is built into the neck area.
To keep cargo in the best condition, the trailers are equipped with air suspension and a roll stability system. Supporting ease of use on delivery, moving deck controls can be accessed from ground level and loading bay height.
Darren Holland, Tiger Trailers’ sales director, said: “Working with Peter and the Asda team has been a great experience. From the initial on-site meetings to view their operations to sharing the 3D model of their precise trailer at the factory and finally presenting the trailer in our showroom to the Asda team we are really happy with the final product. These trailers will be servicing the Asda ambient operation, and we look forward to working with the Asda team in the future.”
