South Lincs Foodservice’s first new trucks in four years are two 18-tonne DAF CF rigids fitted with Carrier Transicold Supra 1150 MT units. The Carrier eco-drive systems allow the units to run using a diesel engine or electricity derived from the truck engine. This hybrid solution is set to improve the fleet’s overall sustainability. The new units replace two older vehicles and will be put to work on delivery routes within 90 miles of South Lincs Foodservice’s Sutterton depot.

Damon Ingamells, head of operations at South Lincs Foodservice, said: “Carrier Transicold has always had a strong presence within our temperature-controlled fleet. So, when the team raised the potential for a hybrid configuration with the Eco-Drive technology, we were immediately interested. This allows us to reduce fuel costs and cut fleet emissions, with the flexibility of being able to revert to the unit’s own power source when required – it really is the ideal solution for our needs.”

The eco-drive system runs a generator by connecting to the truck’s power take off using a hydraulic pump. The same refrigeration capacity is provided regardless of vehicle speed or idling and the operator can flick a switch to change between electric and diesel power.

James Bell, sales and marketing director at Carrier Transicold, said: “Working with forward-thinking companies like South Lincs Foodservice is always rewarding. And the introduction of the Eco-Drive technology to the fleet will certainly help to unlock new sustainability possibilities for its team.”

The trailers are covered under Carrier’s BluEdge fixed cost maintenance package covering annual temperature control testing and certification, regulatory checks, and access to oneCALL, a 24/7 incident management service.

Offering its customers hybrid and more sustainable solutions is part of Carrier’s 2030 environmental, social and governance goal. In the next six years the company wants to eliminate over one gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise be released without switching to greener solutions.
