In preparation for its busiest time of year, Evri has invested more than £3 million in its fleet. The company has ordered its first electric HGV, a DAF XB eHGV. The vehicle will be operational before Christmas and will run alongside a trial of two other electric HGVs. The XB eHGV can charge from 20% to 80% in under 70 minutes and has a range of up to 350km.
David Landy, head of fleet at Evri, said: “We’re excited to get our hands on our first permanent electric HGV. I’m really proud of the investment our business continues to make in more sustainable vehicles, and I can’t wait to see what this vehicle can do in a highly demanding environment. We’ll be closely monitoring its performance so we can explore which other routes might be suitable for this kind of vehicle. Many of our routes require an extensive range to maintain efficiency of the parcel journey, so it’s the toughest area to decarbonise. It’s been great to work with our suppliers Adams Morey Ltd to supply the trucks and our long-term supplier GK Signs for applying the fantastic livery.”
To meet its goal of reaching net-zero by 2035, Evri has also added 12 additional bio-CNG (compress natural gas) Iveco S-Way tractor units to its fleet. This brings the total number of bio-CNG vehicles on fleet to 202, reducing emissions by around 80%. To support the fleet over Christmas, the company has 20 bio-CNG tractor units on a temporary basis.
Increasing efficiency across the fleet, the company has taken delivery of 43 long-body rigids. These are 10m long rather than 8.5m which increased capacity by 25% from 16 to 20 pallets. Evri also runs 44 vehicles on H
