Wincanton has added ten new electric trucks from Renault as the part of its contract to provide home delivery services for Ikea.

The multimillion-pound investment will see ten Renault Trucks E-Tech D16s put into service to support Ikea’s goal of reaching 100% zero emission last mile deliveries by 2025.

Powered by four 66kWh batteries on a 5.3m wheelbase, the trucks have also been fitted with a TVSi box body and Dhollandia tail lift. Included in the deal are 20 electric vans from Ford.

The fully electric vehicles will transport deliveries to customer homes across Greater London and the South East of England. The new 30 vehicle electric fleet is expected to complete just over 10,000 journeys per annum saving Wincanton 1,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Carl Moore, MD of eFulfilment at Wincanton, said: “At Wincanton, we want to be the leading provider of net-zero supply chain solutions for our customers and partners. As part of this, we are committed to investing in technology that develops the resilience and efficiency of our customers’ operations and supports their efforts to achieve their strategic sustainability goals. Our multimillion-pound investment in the latest electric vehicle technology for Ikea is a great example of this in action. We’re proud to be delivering this for an important customer and we look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Carlos Rodrigues, MD of Renault Trucks UK and Ireland added: “We are delighted that one of the UK’s leading supply chain partners has selected Renault Trucks as part of this hugely significant investment in electric vehicles to provide home delivery services for IKEA.”

Renault Trucks will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
