The Inverness-based subsidiary of Leiths (Scotland) Ltd, A Ross & Sons, has received two new C430 8x4 tippers. Fitted with Aliweld insulated tipper bodies, the trucks were supplied by Renault Trucks Scotland and join a mixed tipper fleet. The vehicles will be put to work delivering sand, aggregates and asphalt from the company’s Midlairgs Quarry to customers across the North West Highlands.
Bob Adamson, fleet manager at Leiths (Scotland) Ltd, said: “Our varied and widespread operation is very busy, with much work currently generated from the renewables and infrastructure sectors. We need reliable vehicles, with first class back up service and driver appeal. We found the Renault Trucks C is well specified, comfortable, the cab design gives us ample space to advertise our business and the engine, chassis and running gear are all proven technology which gives great reliability and overall peace of mind.”
The trucks are kitted out in the A Ross & Sons grey and orange livery and equipped with Renault Trucks’ 11-litre engine with 323kW and 2050Nm of torque. An Optidriver ATO 2612 gearbox drives PMR 23150 single reduction rear axles and the C430s have a 23-tonne rear loading capacity. Payload is optimised thanks to lightweight aluminium air tanks and Aloca brushed matt aluminium wheels.
Adamson said: “Together with the Aliweld tipper bodies, the Renault Trucks are amongst the lightest in the fleet, allowing optimum payload. The drivers are singing the tippers’ praises and, in particular, are impressed with how well equipped they are, the comfort, the cab air suspension and the smooth gear changes provided by the automatic gearbox. Keeping our vehicles moving is a priority and first class back up service from a manufacturer is an absolute must. Having service dealers close to most of our locations, the Renault Trucks workshop network fits well with our operations.”
The C430s are on a two year repair and maintenance contract which will be taken care of at Renault Trucks dealer ETV, Inverness. Leiths runs 18 other Renault Trucks in the group’s fleet including insulated tippers, concrete mixers, a 44-tonne drawbar tipper, a hooklift, a road marking truck and tractor units, as well as ten 3.5-tonne Renault Trucks Master dropsides.
Leiths has ordered an additional nine General Safety Regulations (GSR) compliant Renault Trucks vehicles. A Renault Trucks C, five D road marking trucks, a D curtainsider and two C430 8x4 tippers are expected to be delivered in 2024.
