Part of Michelin’s connected fleet suite, its Smart Predictive Tyre is now available in the UK. The system monitors tyre pressure and wear to give live alerts to improve efficiency and safety. Smart predictive tyre uses the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), drive over tread reading technology and telematics data in conjunction with predictive algorithms to inform scheduled maintenance.

This is designed to be a more accurate tool than manual checks which offers operators reliable tyre information. Implementing smart predictive tyre should help to decrease unexpected tyre faults, minimising costly downtime and missed deliveries.

The tread wear monitoring aspect of the system ensures operators are running safe and legal tyres that are delivering maximum fuel efficiency and performance. This contributes to operators reducing carbon emissions, fuel costs, and tyre costs.

The system was first piloted in Spain last year and has subsequently been rolled out in Portugal and France. Comparing three months of smart predictive tyre use against the three months prior to without the system shows a reduction in tyre-related incidents up to 80%, a 10% improvement in tyre life, and a 3% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Maxime Dupuy, UK sales director, Michelin Connected Fleet, said: “Smart Predictive Tire is the first time we combine our know-how in connected fleet solutions, our expertise in tyres and services with our own technologies to bring added value to our customers. MICHELIN Connected Fleet helps improve operator’s performance, simplify maintenance, increase the uptime of assets and reduce their environmental impact.”

Smart predictive yre is part of connected fleet services which includes products such as vehicle tracking, driver behaviour monitoring, vehicle maintenance, job management, vehicle checks, temperature monitoring, incident management, brake performance monitoring, camera monitoring, driver hours and EV transition and management solutions. Smart reports and Michelin’s consultancy service supports operators in understanding how to turn this data into useful insights and strategies to improve their business.
