FM Conway takes more Andover Trailers

Andover Trailers has delivered four bespoke-built step frame trailers to FM Conway, a continuation of their long-standing relationship spanning over two decades. The new trailers have a similar specification to FM Conway's previous Andover builds but with a request for two of them to be 1.2 metres shorter, allowing for easier access to urban sites and infrastructure projects that are typically more difficult to reach.

FM Conway's senior transport manager, Steve James, says: “We started with two Andover four-axle step frames around 10 years ago and now we have eight – which is testament to their build quality and longevity. What makes Andover stand out is the bespoke nature of the work, they do all they can to accommodate any specific requests. On this occasion, that involved shortening two of the trailers. We still receive the same strength and specs, but with the added bonus of a little more manoeuvrability.”

The new trailers feature a durable, four-member design with slide-out side extensions for load stability. They also include power toe ramps, hydraulic steady legs, D-ring and lashing points for load security, chain storage, and an electric winch.

Safety features of the trailers include a working at height system, LED strobe lights, work lights, and flashing beacons. The trailers are equipped with SAF axles with disc brakes and rear-steer capability. They are expected to replace some of the older Andover trailers in FM Conway's fleet.

The step frame trailers will be in operation throughout the week, delivering plant equipment to infrastructure projects across southern England. They will cover approximately 180,000km per year and are part of FM Conway's mixed commercial vehicle fleet, which consists of over 800 vehicles.
