At the 2024 Carmen Transport Awards Parksafe Group was awarded the Viva Shield for its low bridge detection system.

The Worshipful Company of Carmen organises the awards and has a 500 year history in transport. Established in 1517, the company promotes education in transport and logistics, and organises charitable events to support the military amongst other causes. Every year the Worshipful Company of Carmen recognises achievements in the transport sector. The Viva Shield is awarded for innovation, improvement or development within the transport industry which contributes to the advancement of transport in Europe.

Mick Barber, Parksafe Group’s founder and managing director, said: “I am delighted that Parksafe Group have been recognised for their innovative safety solutions for the whole of the transport industry. Personally, it was a huge honour for me to receive this esteemed award and it is an unmistakable recognition of the dedication our company has towards the automotive industry.”

Parksafe’s low bridge detection system can detect up to 3,764 low bridges in the UK. For operators running tall vehicles, avoiding low bridges is an essential requirement to ensure loads are delivered safely and on time.

The low bridge detection system is used with GPS to give the driver an visual and audible alert inside the cab. This activates when the vehicle is at least 300m away from a low bridge, giving the driver time to assess the situation. Parksafe’s hardware solution allows the database to be used offline so no active connection is required for the system to operate as it should. The height and width of the vehicle is inputted into the system at installation so it activates automatically with no intervention from the driver needed.

Parksafe has been an automotive supplier for more than three decades. The company supplies equipment such as dash cameras, telematics solutions and progressive safety systems to comply with new DVS requirements.
