The specialist rail and infrastructure services provider Readypower Rail Services has taken delivery of three new 32-tonne 8x2 Volvo FH460s.

Supplied by MV Commercial, the trucks are mounted with heavy haulage plant bodies and Palfinger PK33002 loader cranes. The vehicles join Readypower’s fleet of 24 commercial vehicles, a third of which have been supplied by MV Commercial

Cameron Barr, rail services director (Scotland) at Readypower Rail Services, said: “A key reason we decided to collaborate with MV Commercial is that they were able to source what we needed, when we needed it, which combats the issues we previously experienced with delays in acquiring new equipment, including new trucks.

“Previously we’d have bought the chassis, delivered it to the crane supplier, then had to go to the bodybuilder, before getting each truck type approved. MV were able to do all of that for us – they’re a one-stop shop.”

The beavertail plant bodies are equipped with rail channels to suit the specialist rail plant and equipment Readypower needs to carry. One truck will be based out of Rochester while the other two will use Readypower’s Nottingham depot. The FHs are expected to cover around 120,000km annually delivering plant and attachments including buckets, grabs, rail beams and rail freight.

Globetrotter cabs are fitted with microwaves, night heaters and inverters as well as beacon bars, extra working lights and strobes. Safety equipment includes a lower passenger window and Brigade camera system to meet new DVS requirements.

Barr added: “We sourced four trucks from MV Commercial last year ahead of this latest deal, and once again it’s how engaged the team have been throughout the process that stands out. They know the nuts and bolts of what we require, which means we always get the product we need.”

Readypower has locations in Reading, Nottingham, Wigan, Warrington and Blantyre. A new site in Caldicot, near Cardiff has recently been added following an acquisition at the start of this year.
