In 2023, Renault Trucks saw an 18% increase in vehicle deliveries. The company’s sales results for last year show a positive trend upwards despite a challenging market.
Bruno Blin, president of Renault Trucks, said: "Renault Trucks ended 2023 with a total of 69,859 deliveries, up 18%. A solid commercial performance that allows us to continue the transformation of our company and our transition towards sustainable transport. Renault Trucks asserts itself as a leader in decarbonised mobility, with a 22.4% market share of electric vehicles in the over 16-tonnes segment in Europe."
In Europe the brand sold 62,476 units, up 20% on the previous year. Sales to the rest of the world totalled 7,383 units, an increase of 8.7%. Looking at the split of vehicle type, medium and heavy duty trucks accounted for 40,833, up marginally by 4%. Light commercial vehicles saw a huge increase of 46% up to 29,026 units.
Electric vehicle sales also saw a successful year. In total 1,636 EVs sold, up 153% compared to 2022. In the reverse to ICE vehicle sales, light commercial EVs were more popular, selling 1,012 units, up 278%. Medium and heavy duty electric trucks claimed 624 vehicle sales in the same period, a 65% increase.
This year Renault is set to build on its performance in the light commercial EV market with the launch of two new models: the E-Tech Trafic and E-Tech Master vans.
Despite strong sales results, Renault’s market share fell by 0.9 points to finish at 8.5%. Although deliveries increased in the 6- to 16-tonne segment, market share fell here too by 0.8 points to 6.2%. Nevertheless, its prominence in France, its domestic market, remained strong for vehicles over 16-tonnes, commanding a 27.9% market share.
Building on these results, the company has started 2024 in a good position with a large order of 105 E-Tech T tractor units for XPO Logistics. By 2030, Renault aims for half of the vehicles it sells to be battery electric.
Its sustainability goals also encompass the used vehicle market. Its used trucks factory in Bourg-en-Bresse houses electric retrofit facilities to upcycle older vehicles. This is a scheme the company hopes to expand in the coming years.
