MD Transport has taken delivery of a 26-tonne Renault Trucks C range 6x2 rear steer with a McPhee mixer body. Supplied by Andy Cross at RH Commercial Vehicles, the truck was supplied to replace an existing 18-tonne unit. MD Transport operates a fleet of three trucks to deliver concrete to building sites.
Owner Mick Daniels said: “This is the best truck I have ever had, and I’ve been driving since I was 18. Having a powerful engine and the ability to manoeuvre in tight locations is a must when looking for a new truck for the business. I have been very impressed with previous Renaults on the fleet so I opted for another one – they keep getting better and better.”
The truck has air suspension at the front and rear to improve handling off-road. Daniels said: “The air suspension is fantastic! It can lift the truck out of muck and help tip more efficiently and quickly. It has really boosted efficiency and productivity.”
Inside, it’s equipped with lockable storage compartments, bottle holders, a 7-inch media touchscreen and 24V sockets. The driver’s seat is heated and ventilated, has adjustable lumbar support and memory function.
As drivers will be using the truck overnight, MD Transport opted for the serenity bunk which is thicker and features more springs than the standard mattress. Other extras include additional sockets, a 24-litre fridge, bunk lighting and curtains.
Daniels added: “The drivers love the trucks. When they have to spend the odd night out, they have everything they could possibly need with them.
“When on the road, operation is simple, they prefer the rear steer over other makes – it's so much easier to manoeuvre in one go. They also move so well off-road – which is essential as they spend more time on rough terrain than on the road. If I had all the money in the world, I would still buy this truck. I love it.”
