Yodel has added 80 new Schmitz Cargobull S.BO PACE units to its trailer fleet. Built and delivered within four months at Schmitz Cargobull’s production plant in Manchester, the trailers contribute to the company’s aims to reduce CO2 emissions. It’s estimated the S.BO PACE units will reduce fuel costs and save up to 1,464kg of CO2 per trailer every year.

Pasqualino Vaccarella, regional compliance manager at Yodel, said: “We were hugely impressed with the scale of the potential savings presented by the UK team at Schmitz Cargobull, which align closely with the sustainability goals of our business. Yodel has already made great strides in reducing our climate impact and this marks another step in our sustainability journey.”

“With the lighter weight of the S.BO PACE trailer compared to some of its competitors, we expect to see some tangible benefits in the first year of operation, including substantial improvements in fuel economy across the fleet.”

The trailers are up to 700kg lighter than traditional dry-freight trailers. The Schmitz Cargobull units use STRUKTOPLAST panels which use a honeycomb polypropylene core structure to reduce weight. This also helps to improve payload capacity alongside the environmental benefits of reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Vaccarella added: “We’ve strengthened our relationship with the team who not only supported us all the way through the trailer build and aftercare but also got behind Yodel during our road safety week event and various other business initiatives. It’s a very productive partnership.”

In 2023, Yodel invested £14m into its fleet to improve efficiency and satisfy customer requirements based on growing demand. The new trailers will be used across England, Scotland and Wales, travelling in and out of more than service centres and three national sorting hubs across. Yodel handles more than 190 million parcels annually and is headquartered in Liverpool.
