60-second interview: Gary Forster, CEO Transaid

Favourite holiday destination and why?
My fiancé’s parents have a house on Crete, near Almyrida. We go every year and next August we are getting married there.

What car do you drive?
A folding Brompton bicycle!

I enjoy reading biographies, playing golf, eating Indian food and running

How did you get into the industry and why?
Motivated by a desire to help others I left Proctor and Gamble in 2006 to take on a volunteer position with Transaid. I’ve never looked back!

How would you encourage more young people into the industry?
I think we could do a better job of showcasing the substantial technological and IT side of the industry; be it design, engine management systems, or telematics.

What is the outlook for your sector of the market over the next 12 months?
Thanks to enormous support from the transport and logistics sector Transaid is going from strength to strength. We currently have 27 corporate members providing us with volunteers and funding, and we are using that to implement projects across seven countries.

Imperial Commercials Western recognised as an Investor In People

Imperial Commercials Western Region has been awarded the Investors in People (IIP) standard.

The business, which has Daf dealership sites in Bristol, Gloucester, Frome, Hereford, Swindon and Worcester, employs 200 staff in vehicle sales, technical and customer service roles.

Over the past 20 years, IIP has worked with more than 100,000 businesses around the world, using its accreditation framework, to increase employee engagement and encourage leadership.

David Lewis, regional director at Imperial Commercials said: “We’ve a great team who put the customer first every time.

“Also, we’ve grown the business in three new locations since our last assessment and that team spirit comes through strongly in all locations - the assessor gave me some great feedback”.

Meanwhile as part of Daf’s dealer incentive programme, Ford & Slater has received an ‘A’ status dealer award for 2014.

Each of the ten Ford & Slater sites was appraised on its own merits and contributed to Ford & Slater becoming one of just four dealer groups in the UK with ‘A’ status.

Tim Strevens, Joint MD at Ford & Slater, said: “We are delighted to have received the ‘A’ status award and I’d like to thank all our staff that have worked so hard to deliver this success.

“The most important thing about the award is that the steps we take and work we do is all geared towards delivering the highest levels of service to our customers.

“The plaque itself will be displayed with pride in our reception at Ford & Slater Leicester.”
