BAKO has taken delivery of 24 Scania and Volvo temperature controlled trucks fitted with Carrier Transicold units. Supplied by Preston Scania, 18-tonne and 26-tonne Scania L 320 rigid trucks are equipped with Carrier Transicold Iceland MT units. 26-tonne Volvo FM rigids with box bodies built by Gray & Adams are paired with Supra 1150 MT units.

Tony Cookson, transport manager at BAKO, said: “No matter the type of unit, we have always found that Carrier Transicold offers one of the most complete packages in relation to innovation, performance, price and product availability. We’re excited to see how Carrier’s engineless technology will help the business through reducing fuel costs, as well as delivering excellent sustainability benefits through reduced emissions and significantly quieter operation.”

The Iceland units use power from the truck’s engine through Carrier Transicold’s Eco-Drive system. This works using a hydraulic pump connected to the vehicle’s engine power take-off to generate the electricity required. The unit has quick pull-down speeds and quiet operation at a PIEK-compliant level below 60 dB(A).

The Supra 1150 MT units also use the Eco-Drive system and a separate diesel power source so the unit can operate when the vehicle is stopped with the engine off. This gives operators the choice of which power source to use to maximise efficiency and reduce emissions.

Geoff Fearnley-Hill, national key account manager at Carrier Transicold UK, said: “It’s been a delight to work with the BAKO team on the supply of its new rigids and to introduce them to the power of the Eco-Drive, Iceland and Supra systems. We’re proud that our technology will allow the business to combine outstanding performance with superb sustainability benefits moving into the future.”

The new Carrier Transicold units are covered by a BluEdge service and maintenance contract. The package includes annual temperature control testing and certification, regulatory checks and oneCALL 24/7 incident management service.

Scania and Volvo will both be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 4-6 June. Registrations are now open, so book your free place now!
