Eddie Stobart is looking to close its Corby and Alcester distribution centres (DC), part of its chilled distribution division network, putting 250 jobs at risk.

Stobart is consulting with 200 employees at Alcester and 100 at Corby sites over the changes but adds it is investing in a new chilled and ambient warehouse at Magna Park, near Lutterworth in Leicestershire, which will employ 100 people.

A spokesman for the company says: "To meet demands of the current business environment, Eddie Stobart is announcing changes as part of continuing re-alignment and the best possible allocation of resources to support its transport division network nationally.”

He adds: “The company proposes these changes to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact of the movement of empty trucks, and ultimately to deliver a continually more cost-effective service.”

Restructuring of Stobart’s chilled facilities in the Midlands follows a swathe of job cuts at DCs in Stoke-on-Trent, Leeds, Goole and Barlborough before Christmas.
