60-second interview: Mark Oldbury, sales director, Daf Trucks

Commercial Motor
September 2, 2016

My favourite holiday destinations are….
Winter in Barbados and summer in Provence - both are fabulous.

I drive a…
Jaguar XF.

My hobbies include…
Golf, rugby and motor sports.

I got into the industry when…
I completed a five-year commercial apprenticeship with Bedford Trucks, which was a great platform for a future in the truck industry. I’ve been fortunate to work for a rental and contract hire business, a large retail dealer group and I have enjoyed the last 20 years at Daf Trucks.

To encourage more young people into the industry we should…
Work closely with schools and colleges to emphasise the technical, engineering and commercial opportunities. Daf does this in the local community. It’s been a great career for me and I would encourage youngsters to consider being part of it.

The outlook for our sector over the next 12 months is…
Full of opportunities. The market above 6 tonnes for the year to date is up on 2015 despite the referendum, and the new Daf Euro-6 products are increasing in popularity. At Daf we continue to focus on close relationships with our customers. We are supported by the commitment of our 131 UK dealers and our dedicated team at Daf headquarters in Thame, Oxfordshire.
